Foro participants may wish to pass some pleasant non-conference days in
San Diego or Imperial County just  across the border from Mexicali. Calexico
is the U.S. town bordering Mexicali. Just a few miles north begins the vast
Anza-Borrego Desert, always beautiful, but especially so in March when the
spring wildflowers and cactus  bloom.  San Diego is a two-hour drive west on I-8
   from Calexico.
Visitors to San Diego must see the world-famous San Diego Zoo, located in
beautiful Balboa Park. Many museums are also located in Balboa Park. Of
course, visitors must see the local beaches, shop and stroll in La Jolla, and dine
in the historic downtown Gaslamp District.  Trolleys depart downtown for the
international border to enable easy shopping on Avenida Revolucion in
   Tijuana.
